Our Research in Vision Loss

Vision loss caused by diseases of the eye affects over 160 million people globally* and can have a devastating long-term impact on quality of life. Many of these diseases have few, or no, effective treatment options, with many patients urgently seeking new alternatives.

Our long-term goal is to identify, develop and deliver next generation treatments that restore sight for patients with eye diseases and may help them to get back to their daily lives.

We are combining innovative cell therapy (replacing cells that are not working properly with healthy cells) and gene therapy (using genes to repair cell function) with a deep understanding of the biology of eye diseases to develop treatments where none exist today.

We hope that delivering cell and gene treatments for the eye will be the start of ongoing innovation. This could help patients across many other disease areas that do not have good treatment options now.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of clinical trials are available for vision loss?

There are various types of clinical trials focused on vision loss, including studies on investigational medications, surgical procedures, and innovative therapies. These trials may target specific conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, or retinitis pigmentosa. We invite you to explore clinical trial options on this website and on public clinical trial registries like clinicaltrials.gov.

Do I need a referral from my doctor to take part in a study?

Your doctor may not know about all the opportunities for clinical trials that are available to you. Talk to your doctor or other medical provider about clinical trial information that you find. They can help you decide if a clinical trial is right for you. If you do not find any options on this website, we recommend you visit a registry website like clinicaltrials.gov [can insert others, or just link to the resources page] to see a wide variety of available clinical trials.

Will participating in a study affect my eligibility for other studies in the future?

This depends on the study you consider for the future. Most studies do not allow people to take part if they are currently enrolled in another study. And some studies may not allow people who had certain procedures or other treatments done in an earlier study.

How is my privacy protected if I take part in a clinical trial?

Clinical trials are required to follow strict regulations to protect participants' privacy and confidentiality. Your personal information will be kept secure and used only for research purposes.
